Boys Basketball beat Palo Duro High School for the fourth year in a row during the Regional Quartefinals, advancing them to the Sweet 16.

“It was a high intensity game,” junior James Curry said. “My adrenaline was going. It was fun and I was real excited about it.”

The final score was 68-61, with junior Da’Qondre Franklin scoring 14 points.

“DQ, he gave us some really good minutes, especially when we got some foul trouble or even Curry when he got hurt, he came in and helped us,” senior Eric Simmons said.

Da’Quondre is not a starting player but managed to score the second highest points on the team, following senior Shahodd Singleton.

“I just wanted to win the game,” Da’Qondre said. “Trying to go to the Sweet 16 and get to that state title.”

The boys will play Justin Northwest for a spot in the Regional Final where they will then play the winner of the game between Burges High School and Eastern Hills.

“It will be great for El Paso,” Erik said. “For both of us (Burges) to go to the finals at the regional tournament, that basically means we are 2 of the best in Region 1 of Texas, so I think it will be great.”
